The East African Development Bank (EADB) has announced the appointment of Anne Juuko as its new Director General, marking a new era for the institution. The decision was made by the EADB Governing Council, which also approved a series of key reforms to enhance governance and steer the bank’s future.

Juuko, a seasoned banker with over two decades of experience across East and Southern Africa, transitions to EADB from Standard Bank Group. Her background includes extensive work in commercial banking, capital markets, and executive leadership. Notably, she previously served as Managing Director and CEO of Stanbic Bank Uganda, where she was credited with driving balance sheet growth and digital transformation.

Yusuf Murangwa, Chairperson of the EADB Governing Council and Rwanda’s Minister of Finance, hailed Juuko as a tested leader with a profound understanding of regional economic dynamics. He emphasized that her expertise will be crucial as EADB enters its next phase of development.

The appointment comes as EADB celebrates a strong financial performance in 2025, with a significant increase in profit before tax and loan disbursements. The bank also maintained its investment-grade credit ratings from S&P Global and Moody’s.

Juuko expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and outlined her strategic priorities. These include deepening the bank’s development finance role, attracting new long-term capital, and forging strategic partnerships to expand EADB’s reach across East Africa. She acknowledged the pressing regional need for affordable, long-term financing for critical sectors like infrastructure and climate resilience.

The new reforms are intended to bolster the bank’s credibility and enable it to build on its existing foundation. The Governing Council also extended its appreciation to Benard Mono for his interim leadership during the transition period.
