Trump Admits Some Munitions Low Amidst Iran Conflict, Vows Replenishment
President Donald Trump has acknowledged that the ongoing conflict with Iran has led to a "little bit lower" supply of certain munitions, though he pledged to restock them to unprecedented levels. US President Donald Trump has conceded that the prolonged engagement in the Iran conflict has resulted in a reduction of certain munitions. Speaking in an interview, Trump stated that while some ammunition supplies are “a little bit lower,” he intends to replenish them to “levels we’ve never done before.”
This statement comes after a mid-July report from the Pentagon’s inspector general indicated significant shortfalls in critical munitions and issues with resupply chains due to the war. Previously, Trump had largely dismissed such reports as “mostly fake news.”
In the same interview, published by Time, Trump also suggested the possibility of escalating strikes against Iran following the November midterm elections. This contrasts with his earlier assertions that the US had already achieved victory in the conflict.
Since the war began in February, US forces have consumed large quantities of both long-range ground attack systems and air defense interceptors, such as Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (Thaad) missiles. An earlier analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies estimated that stocks of some interceptors had been depleted by more than half.
Despite these assessments, Trump maintained in the interview that the US military is in “great shape” and actively “stocking up big.” He referred to “middle grade and upper middle grade” ammunition as being powerful, without specifying which types were low. He did note, however, that manufacturers were increasing production of Patriot and Thaad systems nationwide.
Regarding future actions, Trump revealed few specifics but mentioned rejecting an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, deeming it “not good enough.” He reiterated that further hostilities were “possible” after the elections, even though he felt the US had performed “an incredible job.”
Recent polling indicates public concern over rising prices, with a significant portion of Americans attributing them to Trump’s policies, including the Iran war. Only 17% of US adults approved of his handling of the cost of living, and 26% approved of his economic management, according to an Associated Press-NORC poll released the same day.
While Republican strategists are reportedly concerned about the impact of negative public opinion on the upcoming elections, Trump dismissed the polls as “fake numbers.” He expressed confidence that his personal campaigning could help Republican candidates secure victories in key races.
