Tragedy struck in Naguru, Kampala, when a security guard was found dead in a swimming pool at a residential property. The deceased, identified as 24-year-old Andrew Tumusiime, was an employee of SGA Security Company.

Tumusiime had been assigned to guard a home on Plot 10, Naguru. Sources indicate that the occupants of the residence had left the property two days prior, leaving Tumusiime and a colleague in charge of security.

His daytime colleague, Edison Kyaligonza, reported becoming concerned when he arrived for his shift and could not locate Tumusiime. After noticing the gate ajar, suggesting Tumusiime might have stepped out briefly, Kyaligonza attempted to call him. The phone rang unanswered.

“I heard his phone ringing from the swimming pool side. When I got there, I saw his clothes and then his body floating on the water,” Kyaligonza recounted. He immediately alerted his company, which subsequently notified the police.

Preliminary observations suggest Tumusiime may have been recording himself while swimming before he drowned in the deeper end of the pool. The chairperson of Kiwalimu Zone in Naguru, Ahamed Matoovu, was also alerted and arrived at the scene.

There were criticisms regarding the police’s response time and handling of the situation, with one resident, Najiv Ssenyange, noting a delay in retrieving the body and a perceived lack of preparedness among the initial officers. Ssenyange emphasized the need for broader police training in crime scene management.

Some reports suggest the property belongs to a senior bank official, and there were indications the security company preferred the incident not to be publicized.
