Parliament is set to fill the crucial role of Assistant Director, Media and Communication, with nine individuals making it to the final selection stage. This competitive process includes notable figures from Uganda’s media and public relations landscape.

Among the frontrunners are experienced journalists Davies Emmanuel Gyezaho, formerly of the Daily Monitor, and Charles Odongtho, who has worked with Vision Group and UBC. Also shortlisted is Benon Herbert Oluka, another ex-Daily Monitor journalist with a background in investigative reporting. Peter Kauju, who has held communications positions at KCCA and Umeme, brings extensive public and corporate communication experience to the table.

The Parliamentary Commission advertised the vacancy on August 12, with applications closing on September 1, 2026. The selection process follows the interdiction of the former Director of Communication and Public Affairs, Chris Obore, who was among officials facing corruption-related charges and has since been granted bail.

Following Obore’s interdiction, veteran communications professional Grace Gidudu was appointed as the Acting Director of Communication and Public Affairs. The current recruitment aims to secure a substantive appointment for the Assistant Director role within the directorate, which oversees Parliament’s media engagement and public outreach.

The other candidates vying for the position are Joseph Kaaya, Ramathan Mbago, Vicent Musoke, Bernadette Ndema, and Martin Ninsiima. Invitation letters detailing interview dates, venues, and times will be dispatched to the shortlisted applicants. The shortlist has been made public on the Parliament of Uganda website and at the Parliamentary Buildings.
