The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) offices in Mityana District were targeted in a nighttime raid on September 29th. Suspects reportedly overpowered two private security guards from SWAT Security Company around 2 am before forcibly entering the premises.

During the break-in, thieves made off with a significant amount of valuable equipment, including 10 computer monitors, 10 central processing units (CPUs), an HP laptop, and an internet router. The intruders also vandalized a metallic safe in the accounts and finance section, though no cash was taken. All office locks were reportedly broken, and office documents were found scattered.

Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi stated that the two security guards on duty have been arrested to assist with the ongoing investigation. He noted the absence of CCTV cameras at the NWSC offices, which has complicated the identification of the perpetrators. Police deployed a sniffer dog, which tracked the suspects for approximately 200 meters before losing the trail.

NWSC area manager Nantambi Allen has provided a statement to the police as investigations continue. This incident occurs amidst a backdrop of continued burglary and property offenses across Uganda. While recent police reports indicate a slight decrease in reported cases compared to previous years, burglaries remain a significant concern, with thousands of such cases recorded annually.
