Dr. Moses Kamabare, the driving force behind National Medical Stores (NMS) as its General Manager and Chief Executive, has been celebrated as the Pharmacist of the Year 2026 by the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda (PSU).

Kamabare received the Certificate of Excellence at the PSU Pharmacy Excellence Awards ceremony held on September 25, 2026, at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. This esteemed award acknowledges a pharmacist who embodies dedication, integrity, leadership, innovation, and excellence in their practice, while also making substantial contributions to advancing Uganda’s pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

Dr. Pamela Achii, president emeritus of the PSU, presented the award, commending Kamabare’s meticulous approach and effective leadership at NMS. She highlighted how his stewardship has significantly improved the organization’s delivery of services and stakeholder engagement.

Kamabare attributed the honor to the collective efforts of the entire NMS team, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to ensuring the timely distribution of essential medicines and health supplies nationwide.

His recognition underscores the evolving role of pharmacists beyond dispensing, encompassing crucial areas like procurement, storage, quality assurance, inventory management, and last-mile delivery. Kamabare’s work at NMS has been pivotal in modernizing Uganda’s health supply chain, integrating technology like the NMS+ platform for electronic ordering and enhancing supply chain visibility through digital monitoring tools.

Under his leadership, NMS has also bolstered its infrastructure, including a large pharmaceutical warehouse, and strengthened vaccine logistics. Measures such as “Government of Uganda – Not for Sale” markings on medicines further enhance security and accountability.

Kamabare was nominated alongside Dr. David Nahamya, Dr. Jonans Tusiimire, and Prof. Patrick Ogwang. This award celebrates not only Kamabare’s professional achievements but also the vital, behind-the-scenes work that ensures essential medicines reach those in need across Uganda.
