Mbarara City is set to host the 11th annual Championships of Technical, Vocational and Farm Institutes, an event that will bring together more than 4,000 trainees from over 80 educational institutions nationwide.

The week-long competition, hosted by Nyamitanga Technical Institute, will feature a wide array of sporting disciplines, including athletics, volleyball, netball, basketball, and football. Trainees will also engage in indoor games like chess, draughts, and scrabble, testing both their physical and mental capabilities.

To accommodate the large number of athletes, officials, and spectators, traffic police have implemented diversions along the Mbarara-Kabale Highway and surrounding roads near the host institute. Motorists should anticipate potential delays and be prepared to follow alternative routes as directed by traffic officers.

Security agencies have been deployed throughout the city to ensure the event runs smoothly. Spokesperson Samson Kasasira stated that uniformed and non-uniformed personnel will be present at key junctions to guide traffic and maintain order.

Beyond the competition, the championships aim to foster unity, discipline, and teamwork among young people in the TVET sector. Organizers also see the event as an opportunity for Nyamitanga Technical Institute and Mbarara City to showcase their hospitality and highlight the significance of vocational training in Uganda. The influx of visitors is also expected to provide a considerable economic boost to local businesses.

The championships officially commence with an opening parade on Monday, followed by a full week of sporting activities.
