An armed group launched an assault on Bugoye Police Station in Kasese District early Thursday morning, resulting in the death of one suspect and the apprehension of four others. According to preliminary reports, the attackers, wielding machetes, initially approached the station under the guise of seeking police assistance.
Sources indicate that the assailants attempted to disarm an officer on duty as part of their plan. However, security forces responded swiftly, leading to a confrontation where one of the six suspected attackers was fatally shot. The quick response prevented the attackers from achieving their objective.
This incident occurs less than a year after a series of coordinated attacks targeted security installations across the Rwenzori sub-region in November 2025. The recurring nature of such assaults in the region raises concerns about ongoing security challenges.
District Police Commander SP Hassan Hiwumbire was present at the scene, addressing residents and assuring them of the security forces’ commitment to maintaining peace. Further investigations are underway to determine the full motive behind the attack and to identify any other individuals involved.
The Kasese police incident has been linked to broader security concerns in the Rwenzori region, following similar attacks last year. (Source: Daily Monitor)
