Buganda Kingdom has called upon students across its territory to embrace tree planting as a meaningful way to commemorate their life accomplishments. This initiative is directly linked to His Majesty the Kabaka’s mandate for environmental protection and addressing the escalating climate crisis.
Noah Kiyimba, the Minister of Cabinet, Guests, and Special Duties in the Office of the Katikkiro, made this appeal while accepting a significant contribution of over 6.5 million Ugandan shillings. The funds were donated by students hailing from schools in the Ssingo and Kyaddondo counties.
Minister Kiyimba emphasized the Kabaka’s vision for the youth to grasp the profound importance of education and the underlying reasons for establishing the Kabaka Education Fund. He stated, “The Kabaka wants our children to understand why he established the Kabaka Education Fund. Education is essential in shaping responsible and valuable citizens.”
Furthermore, Kiyimba urged parents to ensure all school-aged children receive an education, discouraging the practice of keeping children at home instead of enrolling them in school. He commended parents who are dedicated to their children’s education and the instillation of strong moral values, echoing the Nnaabagereka’s continuous encouragement for parents to raise children who will become productive members of society.
Mr. Kikomeko Musa, the Chairperson of the Bukomero Sub-county area and a leader representing the participating schools, expressed gratitude to Buganda Kingdom for the initiative. He highlighted how such programs inspire students to recognize their crucial role in the development of both Buganda and Uganda as a whole.
“This initiative motivates our students to understand that they have a responsibility to build their kingdom and their country,” Musa remarked.
