Two suspected motorcycle thieves lynched by mob in Budaka

A mob in Budaka District has reportedly taken the law into its own hands, lynching two individuals suspected of motorcycle theft. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Namajja 1 Zone of Naboa Town Council.
According to North Bukedi Regional Police spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, the two unidentified men were accused of stealing a motorcycle in Pallisa. Kyempasa stated that the motorcycle owner was allegedly attacked and stabbed before the thieves fled with the vehicle.
Information about the theft quickly spread within the motorcycle taxi community. Riders in Pallisa initiated a chase, and when the suspects headed towards Budaka, local boda boda operators joined the pursuit. The chase concluded in Naboa Town Council, where an angry mob apprehended the suspects and subjected them to mob justice.
Police officers from Budaka Central Police Station responded to the scene after being alerted. A team, including Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), documented the area and collected evidence. The bodies of the two deceased men, estimated to be between 20 and 25 years old, were transported to Mbale City mortuary for postmortem examination.
ASP Kyempasa confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the lynching, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. While acknowledging that mob justice incidents have decreased, he urged the public against taking matters into their own hands, noting that motorcycle theft is not currently a widespread issue in the area.
