Police nab three more suspects in motorcycle robbery probe

Kampala Metropolitan Police have enhanced their ongoing investigation into a notorious robbery gang by apprehending three more suspects. The group is known for targeting individuals carrying large sums of money, using motorcycles for quick getaways.

The latest arrests, which occurred on September 28, have raised the total number of suspects in custody to six. Deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the development.

The newly arrested individuals have been identified as Kawooya Bashir, Kiwo Shamiru, and Nuwamanya Derrick, who is also known by aliases Akiram and Mavako. They were apprehended while traveling on a motorcycle, registration number UMA 349NF, which has since been impounded by the police.

Authorities report that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in a robbery that took place near the American Embassy in Nsambya on June 24, 2026. During this incident, a Nigerian national was allegedly attacked and robbed of Shs20 million. The crime was reported at Kabalagala Police Station.

These recent arrests follow the earlier apprehension of Byanyima Sadic, Waibale Joseph, and Kisongode Ivan, who are also under investigation for their alleged roles in the gang’s operations. To date, police have seized five motorcycles believed to be connected to the gang.

Investigations are continuing, with police actively seeking other potential members of the group and exploring possible links to other robbery cases targeting individuals carrying cash. Further updates are expected as the probe progresses.
