A somber start to Wednesday saw a fatal road accident unfold in Luweero District along the busy Gulu-Kampala Highway. The collision, which occurred around 3 AM in Naluvule Village, Katikamu Sub-county, involved three vehicles: a yellow Nissan (UBM 653N), a white Toyota Sienta (UBL 321R), and a silver-grey Toyota Alphard (SSD 990BZ).
According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twineamazima, preliminary investigations suggest the Toyota Alphard, traveling from Luweero towards Kampala, first collided with the Nissan, which was moving in the same direction. The Alphard reportedly attempted to overtake the Nissan, lost control, swerved right, and then collided head-on with the Toyota Sienta coming from the opposite direction.
The impact was severe, claiming the life of an adult male passenger inside the Alphard at the scene. Two other male individuals sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Luweero General Hospital for medical attention. Police have not yet released the identities of the deceased or the injured.
Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene to document the incident and secure evidence. The body of the deceased has been taken to the Luweero General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. All three vehicles involved were removed from the crash site by a breakdown truck and are currently held at the police station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
Investigations into the precise cause and circumstances of this tragic crash are continuing. The police urge drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads, especially during nighttime hours.
