Namutumba Crash Claims Police Officer, Two Others

A devastating collision on the Iganga-Mbale Highway has claimed the lives of three people, one of whom was identified as Police Constable Abasi Musomoki. The accident occurred Tuesday night in Kalamira Village, Magada Sub-county, involving a taxi traveling from Kampala to Mbale and a HOWO Sino Truck trailer.

According to Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha, the incident happened around 7:30 pm. Preliminary reports indicate that the taxi driver, in an attempt to overtake another vehicle, swerved into the path of the oncoming trailer, leading to a severe head-on impact.

The deceased have been identified as PC Abasi Musomoki, Ruutu Ruja Higenyi (52) from Jinja, and Ramathan Guloba (39), the taxi conductor. Ten other passengers who were injured in the crash have been transported to various health facilities in Iganga and Mbale for urgent medical attention.

Authorities have secured the scene, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Both vehicles involved have been towed to Namutumba Central Police Station for examination. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Iganga Hospital mortuary for postmortem procedures.

Police are using this incident to reiterate calls for cautious driving, especially during nighttime hours. Mr. Kasadha emphasized the importance of avoiding risky overtaking maneuvers and adhering strictly to traffic regulations to prevent future tragedies on the roads.
