Drivers and transport operators at Bufunda Lorry Park, located in Ibanda Municipality, have voiced their alarm over the deeply unsanitary state of the public toilet facility. They report that the toilet is frequently littered with human waste, creating an environment ripe for the spread of sanitation-related diseases.
This dire situation has forced some individuals to seek out alternative toilet facilities in nearby areas, often incurring additional costs for their use. The current state of the Bufunda Lorry Park toilet is so poor that drivers feel their health is constantly at risk.
Observations at the park reveal broken sections of the toilet structure, exacerbating hygiene and safety concerns. Compounding the issue, users are reportedly charged Shs500 per use, a fee that many feel is unjustified given the facility’s dilapidated condition.
However, the lorry park chairperson, Jamada Baale, has dismissed these complaints as politically motivated, asserting the leadership’s commitment to user welfare. Despite these claims, the Bufunda Division Town Clerk, Wilbroad Kamugisha, has acknowledged the toilet’s sorry state.
Kamugisha stated that authorities are actively working to restore the facility to acceptable standards and has urged the lorry park leadership to implement sustainable maintenance measures. These concerns highlight the urgent need for improved sanitation in public spaces, particularly those frequented by a large number of workers and the public.
