The Uganda national football team, the Cranes, received a significant financial boost of Shs30 million following their impressive 1-0 win against Libya. The reward comes from Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who chairs the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), the entity through which the funds were disbursed.
The presentation ceremony saw the team captain, Denis Onyango, receive the cash from Hon. Daudi Kabanda, Head of the PLU Chairman’s Office, at the Hoima City Stadium.
This victory secured three vital points for Uganda in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, adding to their earlier 1-1 draw with Tunisia. The lone goal of the match was scored by debutant Arnold Vula, who headed in an Allan Okello free-kick just before halftime.
Despite facing pressure from Libya, particularly in the second half, the Cranes managed to defend their lead successfully. This win not only places Uganda at the top of Group H but also marks the first international match and the first competitive win at the newly constructed Hoima City Stadium.
The Shs30 million reward serves as an additional incentive for the team as they continue their journey in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers, building on the momentum from this home victory.
