A legal battle has erupted within the family of the late John Chris Bakiza, former Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). His daughters, Bella Asiimwe and Brenda Namara, have lodged a caveat in the Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court, opposing an application by three of their paternal aunts and uncles.

The daughters, who are currently the temporary administrators of their father’s estate, accuse their relatives of attempting to administer their grandfather, Bakiza Erinest’s, estate without proper disclosure. Specifically, they allege that their father’s death was concealed, and they were not informed about the succession proceedings concerning their grandfather’s assets.

This legal challenge highlights a deep-seated family dispute over inheritance. The court is now tasked with mediating this conflict, which centers on accusations of deception and exclusion in the administration of a significant family estate. The outcome of this case could have considerable implications for how the late Bakiza Erinest’s assets are distributed among the surviving family members.

Sources indicate that the caveat filed by Asiimwe and Namara aims to prevent the court from granting letters of administration to the applicants, pending a resolution of the alleged discrepancies and omissions. The court’s decision will hinge on the evidence presented regarding the disclosure of Bakiza’s death and the legitimacy of the application to manage the grandfather’s estate. The case is ongoing, with further proceedings expected.
