Auditor General Flags Over 220 Substandard District Road Projects

A comprehensive audit conducted by the Auditor General’s office has brought to light serious deficiencies in district road maintenance across Uganda. An inspection of roadworks in 148 local governments between October and December 2025 identified a total of 239 roads that were left incomplete.
The report, presented to Parliament, focuses on the upkeep of 228 district road projects, impacting 176 local governments. Auditor General Edward Akol has stressed the urgent need for accountability regarding the Shs176 billion in public funds designated for these road maintenance initiatives.
These findings underscore a persistent challenge in ensuring the quality and completion of infrastructure projects funded by taxpayers.
