Fort Portal City buzzed with anticipation as Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was formally crowned the 15th Omukama of Tooro Kingdom. The significant event marks a new chapter for the kingdom, following the reign of his predecessor, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
Thousands of subjects, cultural dignitaries, and government representatives gathered at the historic Karuziika Palace for the royal ceremony. This marks the first coronation in the kingdom since September 12, 1995, when Omukama Oyo ascended the throne.
The coronation program was meticulously planned, featuring a series of important speeches. Preparations in Fort Portal City reflected the cultural significance of the day, with the city adorned in the vibrant colors and symbols of Tooro.
Security was a top priority, with a coordinated effort from the Uganda Police Force, UPDF, Special Forces Command, and intelligence agencies to ensure a seamless and peaceful celebration. The enthronement signifies a renewed sense of tradition and continuity for the Tooro Kingdom.
The ceremony itself is a culmination of traditional rituals, designed to formally install King Nyabongo I and affirm his role as the custodian of Tooro’s rich heritage.
