New Tooro King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I Urged Towards Monogamy and Accountability by Bishop Kisembo

Bishop Reuben Kisembo of the Ruwenzori Diocese has laid out key expectations for the newly enthroned King of Tooro, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, during a special church service. The service, attended by the King and his wife Queen Rebecca Amoding, marked a significant moment as the monarch began his public duties following his recent installation.
Central to the bishop’s message was a strong call for the King to remain committed to his marriage vows, emphasizing the sanctity of monogamy within Christian tradition. “Our King is a Christian King, and I am advising you that you already have a wife and you made vows in church. I want you to keep that vow,” Bishop Kisembo stated, adding that the church discourages polygamy.
Beyond personal conduct, Bishop Kisembo urged the young monarch to build his reign on principles of accountability and transparency, particularly concerning the kingdom’s finances. He stressed the importance of maintaining proper financial records and undergoing annual audits, addressing what he termed a “problem previously.” The bishop also advised clear separation between royal and personal assets to prevent future disputes.
Furthermore, the bishop called for the empowerment of the Tooro Kingdom Supreme Council, the primary advisory body, ensuring it has the necessary resources to govern effectively. He also highlighted the need to address youth unemployment and idleness, encouraging the King to inspire productive lives among young people.
The bishop further implored the public to embrace Queen Rebecca, who hails from the Teso community, and support the new King’s initiatives, including education and environmental conservation efforts.
The coronation ceremony, which followed the church service, was attended by President Yoweri Museveni and featured a unique performance of the national and Tooro kingdom anthems together. This marks a new chapter for Tooro Kingdom under King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.
