Nairobi boxers shine in Jinja knockout event

The “Night of KOs” boxing spectacular in Jinja saw a strong showing from visiting pugilists, particularly those hailing from Nairobi, Kenya. These “exiles” proved their mettle, leaving a significant impression on the Ugandan boxing scene.
Among the standout performances was that of Kenya’s Fatuma Yazidu, who secured a decisive victory. Her aggressive style and sharp combinations overwhelmed her opponent, earning her accolades from the crowd.
Another Nairobi-based fighter, Fredrick Onyango, also demonstrated exceptional skill. He boxed with precision and power, ultimately achieving a knockout win that underscored his talent.
The event wasn’t without its drama, however. In a bout that sparked debate, Uganda’s Rosette Nakigudde of Wakiso vocally disagreed with the judges’ verdict following her match against Jinja’s own Phiona Naigaga. The close contest left Nakigudde feeling hard done by, highlighting the subjective nature of boxing judging.
Despite the controversy in the Nakigudde-Naigaga fight, the “Night of KOs” largely delivered on its promise of exciting bouts and impressive displays of boxing prowess, with the Kenyan contingent emerging as notable contenders.
