Minister Commends Speaker Oboth for Steering 12th Parliament

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Ephraim Kamuntu, has expressed strong admiration for Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth, highlighting his effective leadership of the 12th Parliament. Kamuntu, who is also the MP for Sheema County South, made these remarks at the Oak Jubilee (80th anniversary) of Mushanga Catholic Parish in the Archdiocese of Mbarara on September 26, 2026.

Kamuntu noted Oboth’s background as a State Attorney before entering politics, emphasizing his valuable contributions. He recalled working closely with Oboth when the latter chaired the Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and Kamuntu served as Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. During this period, they successfully navigated challenging legislation, including the Administration of Judiciary Bill and electoral reforms.

“He helped me a lot. We passed the Administration of Judiciary Bill. It was hard. We passed the electoral reforms bill. It was difficult, but if I did not have him, I would have failed as minister,” Kamuntu stated.

The Minister also touched upon Oboth’s character, mentioning that he was the sole parliamentary candidate endorsed by the entire House of Bishops, underscoring his strong faith. Kamuntu believes Parliament’s reputation is growing under Oboth’s speakership, attributing his ability to diffuse tense situations in the House to his sense of humor.

“Even when Parliament is about to boil, when he speaks, we all laugh it off and focus. He is an asset,” Kamuntu added. Speaker Oboth, who was the chief guest representing the Vice-President, thanked the community for their hospitality and acknowledged the parish’s development projects in education and healthcare.
