Kibuku District Allocates Shs850 Million for Road Upgrades to Enhance Market Access

Kibuku District is set to experience an economic uplift with Shs850 million earmarked for crucial road infrastructure projects. These initiatives are designed to enhance connectivity and make it easier for residents to access markets, particularly for agricultural produce.
The funding is drawn from the Shs1 billion maintenance grant provided to all districts across the country. According to District Engineer Fredrick Dipuloma, the current financial year’s work has focused on several key routes, including Kadama-Molokochomo (7.4km), Nalumbembe-Bumiza (4.6km), Tirinyi-Kibuku (6km), and Kadama-Kabweri-Kakutu (13.4km). Additionally, the Katiryo swamp area has seen 1.2km of improvements.
Cumulatively, these efforts have resulted in 32.6km of gravelled roads and 28.9km of reshaped routes, totaling 62.5km of upgraded infrastructure. “This gives a total of 62.5km of roads that have been worked upon and making accessibility to markets and easy movement much easier. The district currently has the best roads,” Mr. Dipuloma stated.
While the majority of the grant, Shs850 million, is dedicated to the physical works, Shs150 million is allocated for mechanical and operational costs. The improvements are anticipated to significantly benefit farmers and traders by facilitating the smooth transportation of goods to market centers. A commissioning ceremony for the completed roads was recently held, led by RDC Samuel Musiho and attended by district officials.
Despite the progress, some residents expressed concerns about the road widths, feeling they were narrower than expected given the investment. District officials clarified that the specified widths adhere to district and community road standards. The upgraded roads are also expected to improve access to schools and health facilities, especially during the rainy season.
Officials urged community involvement in supervising these projects, emphasizing that residents contribute taxes and should therefore take ownership and raise any persistent issues. The district leadership has pledged continued efforts to maintain and improve the road network.
