Federicko Mujinya suspended until May 2027 for transfer breach

Federicko Mujinya, a receiver-attacker for the six-time champions Nemostars, has been suspended by the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) until May 14, 2027. The ruling stems from an investigation that found Mujinya played for Bishop Stuart University Volleyball Club during the 2024/25 season and then joined Nemostars for the 2025/26 season without completing the necessary formal transfer process.

The UVF’s decision, communicated via a letter signed by President Sadik Nasiwu, prohibits Mujinya from participating in any volleyball-related activities in Uganda during his suspension. He will become eligible to play again after the ban expires but will be required to follow the National Volleyball League guidelines for transfers before joining any new club.

This suspension adds to the complications that led to the cancellation of last season’s men’s Serie A finals. The dispute originated from eligibility complaints raised by Elyon against Mujinya and a teammate during the semi-final series. While the teammate was later cleared, Mujinya’s case concerning his transfer from Bishop Stuart remained unresolved, contributing to the federation’s decision to end the season without a final.

The ban is a significant blow to Nemostars as they prepare for the upcoming National Club Championship. The club is reportedly considering an appeal against the suspension. Mujinya’s absence will be felt, especially after his notable performance at the CAVB Men’s Club Championship earlier this year.
