Ex-Butambala MP Kivumbi Secures Shs3m Cash Bail

Muhammed Muwanga Kivumbi, the former legislator for Butambala County, has been released on bail from the Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court. The release follows the fulfillment of bail conditions set by Grade One Magistrate Amina Wahab.
Kivumbi, aged 55 and also serving as the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Vice President for Buganda, must pay Shs3 million in cash. Additionally, his sureties are required to execute non-cash bonds valued at Shs2 million apiece.
He is currently facing charges that include inciting violence and allegedly managing an unlawful society. The prosecution contends that Kivumbi made inflammatory remarks at a public gathering in Butambala in July 2026, encouraging citizens to rebel against the government. This occurred on the same day he had previously secured bail in relation to terrorism charges before the International Crimes Division of the High Court.
Kivumbi has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.
The proceedings have drawn considerable attention from political figures and supporters of the opposition, who have been closely monitoring the court’s decisions.
