Etania Blasts "Fake Friendships" in Uganda's Entertainment Scene

Deejay and media personality Etania has publicly shared her observations on what she terms “fake friendships” within the Ugandan entertainment sector. She suggests that many relationships are cultivated not out of genuine affection, but rather as strategic alliances for career advancement, performance opportunities (gigs), and professional networking.

Reflecting on her own past relationships, Etania contrasted them with current industry dynamics. She recalled friendships that endured for over eight years, built on sincere investment, shared time outside of work, and a deep mutual understanding. In contrast, she perceives many contemporary entertainment friendships as purely transactional.

“Lately, it’s a lot of falling out because people don’t like each other. They are just using one another, fake for fake, as they say,” Etania stated. She elaborated that some associations are mere “social contracts” where individuals, often fellow female entertainers, band together superficially while harboring underlying competition and undermining each other.

Etania positions herself as an authentic individual in the industry but acknowledges the difficulty in finding sincere friendships due to her influence attracting those seeking personal benefit. She also issued a caution to her peers, urging them to be discerning about who they admit into their inner circles.

“It’s so scary out there, guys. I tell you, you can’t befriend anyone, you can’t trust anyone,” she warned. Etania advised fellow entertainers to exercise caution, maintain their faith, focus on their work, and then return home, highlighting the perceived unpredictability of the social landscape. Her commentary underscores the perceived challenges of fostering genuine connections in an industry where professional and personal lives frequently intersect.
