UPDF Unveils 24 New Housing Units for Mountain Infantry Division

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has boosted its commitment to soldier welfare with the commissioning of 24 new housing units at the Mountain Infantry Division headquarters in Muhooti, Fort Portal.

This initiative is part of a broader UPDF strategy to improve living conditions for military personnel and their families. Deputy Commander Land Forces, Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, officiated the commissioning, emphasizing the ongoing dedication to providing adequate housing despite resource limitations.

“Resources are still limited, but we shall continue to squeeze the available resources and build until all officers and men have good houses for themselves and their families,” Maj Gen Busizoori stated during the ceremony.

He noted that the housing project aligns with the vision of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who championed such infrastructure improvements during his tenure as Commander Land Forces. The units are intended to provide comfortable and secure accommodation for soldiers and their loved ones.

Maj Gen Busizoori urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the new homes, while also cautioning them against complacency and encouraging preparation for life beyond their military service.

In addition to the housing units, Maj Gen Busizoori also commissioned a two-classroom block at Mountain of the Moon Primary School. He stressed the importance of effective supervision for all infrastructure projects, advising the division to utilize construction committees for monitoring.

The Mountain Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Stephen Mugerwa, expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership for selecting the division for these development projects, highlighting their positive impact on personnel welfare.
