UPDF Reserve Force to Undergo Nationwide Assessment

Major General Ssemwanga, the head of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Reserve Force, has announced a significant nationwide assessment of the force’s structures. The primary objective of this extensive review is to strengthen the coordination between regional Reserve Force units and the central headquarters.

During a recent meeting with regional commanders and directors at Bombo, Maj Gen Ssemwanga articulated his intention to personally visit various regions. This hands-on approach will allow for a direct evaluation of how Reserve Force formations operate and identify areas needing improved oversight and collaboration.

The assessment comes at a time when the Reserve Force leadership is keen on optimizing its effectiveness. Commanders present at the Bombo meeting shared valuable insights from their field experiences, highlighting specific needs for additional support and strategic guidance.

Maj Gen Ssemwanga also took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of maintaining high standards of professionalism, discipline, and preparedness within the Reserve Force. He urged all personnel to prioritize teamwork to ensure the force remains agile and responsive to Uganda’s defence and security needs.

Further discussions during the meeting addressed retirement preparations for reservists. Brig Gen Julius Biryabarema, the Director of Pension, Gratuity and Compensation, provided crucial information on pension and gratuity procedures. He stressed the necessity for reservists to keep their personal and family records meticulously updated to facilitate smooth access to retirement benefits, including medical and educational support.

Additionally, Josephine Namaganda from Old Mutual Investment Group (formerly UAP) presented information on life assurance and other financial products beneficial to personnel nearing retirement. The meeting concluded with acknowledgments of commanders who had honorably completed their tenures.

This assessment signals a commitment to reinforcing the capabilities and administrative processes of the UPDF Reserve Force nationwide.
