Suspect Remanded in Luzira for Alleged Murder of Afrigo Band Leader Moses Matovu

Vincent Arnold Nsamba, a 47-year-old driver, has been formally charged with the murder of Ugandan music icon Moses Matovu, the renowned leader of the Afrigo Band. Nsamba appeared before the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court and was subsequently remanded to Luzira Upper Prison until November 3, 2026.
Nsamba, also known as Sitenda, is accused of causing the death of 77-year-old Matovu with malice aforethought on September 24, 2026, in Kibuli Parish. He was brought to court under tight security. Rose Tumusiime, a woman reportedly with Matovu before the incident, was also present but her case file was not ready, and she was driven away by security personnel.
Appearing composed in court, Nsamba had what appeared to be a fractured right arm concealed by his attire. The prosecution informed the court that investigations are ongoing. Nsamba stated he understood the charge but was advised by the Senior Magistrate not to comment further, as the court lacks jurisdiction for capital offenses. He was informed of his right to apply for bail in the High Court.
Police reports indicate Matovu was attacked in the early hours of September 24. During a crime scene reconstruction, Nsamba reportedly admitted to punching Matovu, stating, “I boxed him and he fell down. But I did not intend to kill him.”
Kampala Metropolitan Police have confirmed that investigations into the homicide are active. Moses Matovu has since been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kyanja, Kampala.
