PLU Warns Hadijah Namyalo Over Museveni Endorsement Amidst Muhoozi Campaign

Senior figures within the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have voiced strong disapproval after the ONC Bugisu team, led by Hadijah Namyalo, publicly declared their support for President Yoweri Museveni’s continued leadership past 2031. The endorsement occurred during World Tourism Day celebrations in Mbale.

Chris Buyela, representing the ONC Bugisu team and Namyalo, cited President Museveni’s contributions to development and youth programs as the basis for their endorsement. However, this public statement has clashed directly with PLU’s ongoing nationwide campaign to rally support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential aspirations in the 2031 elections.

PLU General Secretary Fadil Twalla took to X (formerly Twitter) to address Namyalo directly. While acknowledging respect for the ruling NRM party, Twalla reiterated PLU’s commitment to Gen. Muhoozi’s candidacy. “Gen. @mkainerugaba, our PLU Chairman, will be on the ballot in 2031,” Twalla stated, adding that Museveni would act as Muhoozi’s chief campaigner. He urged Namyalo to cease what he termed “unsanctioned” and “attention-seeking” endorsement activities that could confuse the public.

Daudi Kabanda, head of the PLU Chairman’s Office, echoed Twalla’s sentiments with a brief but pointed message to Namyalo: “Namyalo, please stop it.” This public disagreement underscores the developing dynamics and competing endorsements within Uganda’s political landscape concerning the 2031 presidential succession. PLU has been actively securing endorsements for Muhoozi across various regions of the country.
