NCBA Bank Partners with Makerere Marathon to Boost Disability Support Unit

NCBA Bank Uganda has reinforced its commitment to key areas of education, community well-being, and healthy living through its continued collaboration with the annual Makerere Marathon. This partnership aligns with the bank’s broader corporate social investment strategy.

The Makerere Marathon, a significant university-led sporting event, saw over 8,000 participants, including students, alumni, staff, and the general public, take part in its sixth edition under the theme “Run the Hills for the Future.” The event combines athletic competition with fundraising for initiatives supporting Makerere University’s community programs.

Julius Konyani, Executive Director of NCBA Bank Uganda, emphasized the importance of strategic business-institution partnerships for sustainable social impact. “We are therefore proud that the funds raised through this year’s marathon will support the Makerere University Disability Support Unit through the provision of specialised assistive technologies and learning equipment,” Konyani stated. This initiative directly supports NCBA’s “Change the Story” agenda, which prioritizes education, sports, and community development.

Konyani further highlighted Makerere University’s vital role in developing human capital and driving economic transformation across Africa. He noted that supporting the marathon is an investment in both current participants and future generations who will benefit from a stronger university.

The bank also recognizes the marathon’s role in promoting healthier lifestyles and fostering crucial values like discipline, resilience, teamwork, and excellence, which are also integral to business and professional development.

The event, hosted by the Makerere University Endowment Fund (MAKEF), featured various races including a full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km, and a 3km wheelchair challenge. The partnership underscores the impact of private sector collaboration in supporting higher education and creating community value.
