MP Karuhanga Addresses Ntungamo Community Service Gaps

Ntungamo Municipality Member of Parliament, Gerald Karuhanga, has initiated a series of community engagements in areas like Nyamisha and Kakukuru within the Western Division. These dialogues aim to directly address the pressing service delivery issues faced by residents.

In Nyamisha, the community welcomed a new 10,000-liter water tank, a project funded by the MP’s savings, to alleviate long-standing water shortages. Previously, residents relied on contaminated sources and often had to travel significant distances for water. This intervention is seen as an immediate solution while longer-term plans are developed to expand sustainable water access.

Karuhanga highlighted the unique challenges posed by Ntungamo’s hilly terrain, which affects water pressure and distribution. He reiterated his commitment to increasing household connections to the National Water system, aiming to connect approximately 2,000 households, up from the previous 1,200.

Moving to Kakukuru, residents voiced concerns about deteriorating road conditions, limited healthcare access, and a desire for administrative boundary adjustments to incorporate their area into Ntungamo Municipality. They feel their current sub-county structure is not adequately serving their needs, despite their proximity to the town.

Karuhanga emphasized that while administrative boundary changes are being considered, the primary focus must remain on improving service delivery across all communities. He believes that tangible improvements in services would reduce the urgency for boundary changes.

Additionally, the MP addressed the impact of recent wetland enforcement operations, which have affected local livelihoods. He called for greater community engagement and the creation of alternative economic opportunities to support those affected by these environmental protection measures.
