Matovu Murder Suspect and Activist Aloikin Set for Court Appearances

Kampala is set to see two high-profile court appearances today. Vincent Nsamba, 41, is expected to face murder charges at the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court in connection with the killing of veteran musician Moses Matovu, a figure associated with the Afrigo Band.

Separately, activist Praise Aloikin Opoloje will appear before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court. Aloikin was arrested last week, initially reported to be for broadcasting without a license. Police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma clarified that Aloikin was lawfully arrested and is in police custody, refuting claims of abduction.

Kituuma stated that Aloikin is accused of using her social media accounts to “attack, demean and insult other people.” He emphasized that digital platforms do not grant immunity from the law, warning that police will continue to act against unlawful online conduct.

Regarding the murder of Moses Matovu, police have indicated significant progress. Two individuals were initially arrested, and investigators are currently focusing on what they describe as a prime suspect. The crime scene has undergone reconstruction as part of the ongoing investigation, though specific details remain undisclosed to avoid compromising the case.

Police have confirmed the identification of a prime suspect in Matovu’s death but have not yet revealed their identity. The investigation into Matovu’s killing, which occurred in Kampala, involves multiple police units. The probe into the allegations against Aloikin is also continuing.
