Kyabazinga Urges UAE-Based Basoga to Invest in Busoga

His Highness Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV has encouraged members of the Basoga community residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to invest in the development of Busoga and Uganda. During a belated celebration of his 12th Coronation Anniversary held in Dubai on September 26, the King emphasized the importance of unity and cultural preservation.
The gathering, themed “Inspiring a new generation to carry the values, vision and legacy of Busoga forward,” saw the Kyabazinga urging attendees to consider tangible investments such as constructing houses and engaging in long-term agricultural enterprises like coffee and cocoa cultivation.
He lauded the Busoga Yaiffe UAE Chapter, led by Mr. John Mugabi, for their demonstrated unity and commitment to preserving Busoga’s culture, norms, and values. The vibrant display of traditional attire and cultural performances underscored the community’s deep connection to their heritage.
Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE, Zaake Kibedi, highlighted the significant contributions of the Basoga diaspora, who comprise professionals, skilled, and casual workers. Ambassador Kibedi pointed out the UAE’s market demand for agricultural products like avocados and sweet potatoes, offering embassy support for potential exporters.
Minister Milly Babirye Babalanda stressed the importance of maintaining cultural identity abroad by speaking Lusoga, educating children about Busoga’s history, and embracing pride in their heritage. She also advised the diaspora to acquire skills, knowledge, and networks, while saving and investing wisely.
Dr. Aggrey David Kibenge, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, reassured the diaspora about government efforts to protect Ugandan workers abroad and encouraged voluntary savings through the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). The celebrations in Dubai followed an earlier anniversary event held in Uganda on September 19.
