The inaugural Captain’s Putter event recently took place at the scenic Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo, combining a day of golf with a sophisticated evening social.
The tournament, hosted by Uganda Breweries Limited Chairman and Serena Golf Club Captain Jimmy Mugerwa, aimed to foster both friendly competition and relationship building among participants.
Mugerwa highlighted that the event was designed to be more than just a golf competition, emphasizing its role in bringing people together off the course. “The tournament is as much about bringing people together as it is about competition,” he stated, viewing golf as a platform for creating connections and enjoying camaraderie.
Following the day’s play, the focus shifted to the Marina Club House, where the Johnnie Walker Blue Club hosted an evening featuring whisky tasting, live music, and networking opportunities.
Guests were guided through an engaging whisky appreciation session led by Johnnie Walker Reserve Brand Ambassador Steven Baguma. He encouraged attendees to explore the sensory aspects of whisky, from its appearance and aroma to its taste and finish.
Christine Kyokunda, Johnnie Walker East Africa Brand Manager, expressed pride in supporting the event, noting its significance in celebrating the golf captain and the community built around the sport. “This is more than just a tournament. It is about the people, the conversations, the relationships and the experiences that happen around the game,” she commented.
The evening’s entertainment included live performances by Myko Ouma and his band, followed by DJ Elijah Kitaka, creating a vibrant atmosphere for guests.
Attendees were also introduced to the Johnnie Walker Blue Club, East Africa’s luxury whisky club, and learned about its membership. The event successfully merged sporting activity with a refined social experience, centering on connection and enjoyment.
