IUIU Kabojja Campus Hosts "Run for Girl Child Education" Marathon

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Female Campus in Kabojja has underscored its dedication to advancing girl-child education by hosting a vibrant marathon. The event, aptly named “Run for Girl Child Education,” took place on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

This initiative aimed to gather crucial support for enhancing girls’ access to educational opportunities. The marathon attracted a diverse group of participants, including students from IUIU Kampala Campus, Mbogo High School, and other educational institutions.

Funds were raised through the sale of jersey kits, with various price points available to encourage broad participation. Beyond the run itself, the day was filled with engaging recreational activities such as chair dancing, eating contests, and a spirited tug-of-war.

Adding to the community spirit, Mengo Hospital organized a blood donation drive at the event, allowing attendees to contribute to a vital health cause alongside the educational advocacy.

The “Run for Girl Child Education” marathon received significant backing from several sponsors, including Tropical Bank, Faras Boda, Pearl Tours and Travel Services, Centenary Bank, Cairo Bank, dfcu Bank, and MTN Uganda. These sponsors not only supported the event but also rewarded the marathon winners with various prizes.

Distinguished guests, including Maruzi North County MP Benard Otim Odoc and Kyadondo East MP Nkunyingi Muwada, alongside IUIU Director Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, were present to encourage participants. They delivered inspiring messages emphasizing the importance of education for girls’ personal growth and future success.

Organizers stated that the marathon successfully blended fundraising, awareness-building, and community involvement, all in service of championing the cause of girl-child education.
