Insurance Brokers Association Supports Luwero Child Care Centre

The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) has stepped in to support the Happy Times Child Care Initiative in Luwero, a facility that has been providing a haven for vulnerable children since 2006. During a recent visit, an IBAU delegation delivered much-needed scholastic materials and food supplies, directly addressing some of the center’s pressing needs.

Happy Times operates a multifaceted program, encompassing a community school, an orphanage, and a childcare facility. It serves children who have lost their parents, have been abandoned, or require specialized care. The center’s management highlighted significant challenges, particularly in providing adequate nutrition and care for children with diverse needs, including very young abandoned infants.

Beyond basic care and education, Happy Times is dedicated to empowering its beneficiaries. The center runs vital skills-training programs in areas such as tailoring, baking, and soap making, aiming to foster self-reliance among young people and community members. These vocational courses are designed to equip individuals with practical skills for income generation.

IBAU’s contribution was met with gratitude. Joy Namigadde, the director at Happy Times, expressed her appreciation for the scholastic materials, noting that some would have been prohibitively expensive for the center to procure. She urged the association to maintain its connection with the facility.

Christopher Bakesiga Mugisha, acting CEO of IBAU, stated that the visit provided valuable insight into the center’s operations and the needs of the children. He affirmed that the association’s donation was a direct response to the needs identified. Christopher Ssengendo, IBAU’s Public Relations Director, added that this initiative is part of the association’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility, extending their support beyond the insurance sector to positively impact community welfare.

This donation comes at a critical time, as many organizations supporting vulnerable children continue to grapple with funding and resource shortages for essential services like food, education, and healthcare. IBAU has expressed its intention to continue engaging with Happy Times and explore further avenues of support, recognizing the vital role such centers play in society.
