Busia Man Allegedly Kidnaps, Kills 3-Year-Old for Shs2 Million Ransom

Tragedy has struck Busia District after a three-year-old girl, Evelyn Nabwire, was kidnapped and subsequently found murdered. The incident, which has deeply shocked the community of Bubolwa A Village in Bulumbi sub-county, reportedly involves Edrine Bwire, a cousin of the child’s father, David Ouma.

Nabwire disappeared on Thursday, September 24, while playing with other children at Bwire’s home, located within the same compound as her family. According to her father, he had left the house earlier that day, unaware it would be the last time he saw his daughter alive. When Nabwire’s mother returned home around 5 pm, the child was missing. Other children reported that Bwire had sent them away to a shop, leaving Nabwire behind.

When Ouma confronted Bwire about his daughter’s whereabouts, Bwire allegedly became aggressive, brandishing a panga and threatening the family. The matter was reported to the police, who returned with residents to find that Bwire had fled his home.

The situation escalated on Friday morning when Bwire allegedly contacted Ouma, demanding a ransom of Shs2 million. He issued a chilling ultimatum: pay the money within 24 hours or face his daughter’s death. Police attempted to track the phone, but the suspect evaded capture. In subsequent calls, Bwire reportedly taunted Ouma, suggesting he valued money over his daughter’s life.

Despite attempts to coordinate a ransom drop, Bwire continuously changed locations and eventually switched off his phone. Early Saturday morning, Nabwire’s body was discovered on the Busia-Bugiri highway, near her home. The child had sustained multiple deep cuts. Police suspect the body was deliberately placed on the road to make the death appear as a road accident. Investigations are ongoing, and residents, angered by the incident, set Bwire’s house ablaze.
