Amb. Ssemuddu to Address Global Conference on Combating Extremism in Madinah

Uganda’s Ambassador to Sudan and Special Presidential Envoy to Qatar, Amb. Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, will be a featured speaker at a significant international conference in Madinah. The event, held from September 27-28, 2026, at the King Salman International Convention Center, aims to examine Saudi Arabia’s successful initiatives in countering intellectual extremism and promoting a moderate approach.

The conference convenes a diverse group of global scholars, religious leaders, government officials, and academics. Their objective is to share insights and strategies for enhancing intellectual awareness, fostering moderation, and combating extremist ideologies.

Discussions are expected to cover various facets of intellectual deviation, including its root causes, consequences, and mitigation methods. Key themes also encompass the importance of sound Islamic principles, mental well-being, community support, and the influence of technology, artificial intelligence, and social media.

Amb. Dr. Ssemuddu is scheduled to deliver a presentation on September 28th during a session titled “The Impact of Graduates of Saudi Universities in Promoting Moderation and Temperance.” His specific talk will focus on “The Impact of Saudi Universities’ Alumni Forums in Promoting Intellectual Awareness.”

His participation is particularly noteworthy given his strong ties to the Islamic University of Madinah, where he previously studied. Earlier in 2026, he received the university’s Distinguished Alumni Award, recognizing his contributions from a global alumni network of over 150,000 graduates.

This recognition underscores the potential for Saudi university alumni to play a vital role in public service, education, and fostering peaceful coexistence through intellectual dialogue and moderation.
