Activist Aloikin Opoloje Allegedly Abducted After Disputed Carpet Complaint

Human rights activist and lawyer Aloikin Praise Opoloje has reportedly been abducted after being summoned to Namungoona police station over a disputed carpet ownership claim. According to her friend, Raus Ninsima, the events at the station suggest the carpet complaint was a fabricated pretext to detain Opoloje.

Ninsima recounted that the incident began when Opoloje was called by a carpet cleaner who claimed the carpet she had collected belonged to another client. Despite Opoloje asserting ownership and offering photographic evidence, the situation escalated. The other party allegedly threatened to involve the police, leading to Opoloje receiving a summons to Namungoona police station.

Upon arrival with the carpet to prove her ownership, Ninsima stated that the atmosphere at the station shifted dramatically. Inside, they were allegedly met by individuals who claimed security operatives had been tracking Opoloje and that she would be taken “to Muhoozi,” implying a connection to Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. When Opoloje began recording the encounter, a scuffle ensued, and she was forcibly taken away by operatives, reportedly from Defence Intelligence and Security.

Ninsima claims she was threatened at gunpoint when she attempted to intervene and was later informed that Opoloje might be taken to Entebbe Police Station, a facility allegedly used for “indisciplined people.” Opoloje’s whereabouts remain unconfirmed by authorities.

This alleged abduction follows a video Opoloje shared criticizing Gen Kainerugaba for alleged intimidation. The Uganda Law Society has demanded Opoloje’s immediate release and clarification on her status and whereabouts, noting her removal from police custody by unidentified armed personnel.
