Two Die, Nine Injured in Kayunga Road Collision

Tragedy struck in Kayunga District on the Kayunga-Jinja road when a fatal collision claimed two lives and left nine others injured. The incident occurred in Seeta Nyize, Kangulumira Town Council, involving a Toyota Hiace taxi (registration UAW 058J) and a Tata lorry (registration UBR 835Y).

According to police reports, both vehicles were traveling from Kayunga towards Jinja. The taxi reportedly rear-ended the lorry, leading to the severe casualties. The deceased have been identified as Martin Mubiru and Fred Wanguwu, both residents of Nazigo, Kayunga District.

Among the nine injured are Reagan Genga, Moses Kiiza, Jackson Ojambo, David Ibeli, Rukia Amoit, Manjeri Erumbi, Julius Kasubi, and an unidentified baby. Kasubi, a local resident, was reportedly among those who rushed to the scene to assist.

Victims were initially taken to Kangulumira Health Centre IV for treatment. However, one individual with critical injuries was transferred to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for more specialized care. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Kayunga mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Both vehicles involved have been impounded at Kangulumira Police Station for inspection as investigations proceed. Police confirmed that the driver of the taxi was among those who perished. The driver of the lorry is reported to have fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities.
