Tooro Kingdom Dressed in Celebration for Nyabongo I's Upcoming Enthronement

Fort Portal City has transformed into a spectacle of Tooro culture, adorned with the kingdom’s traditional colors, flags, and artistic installations in anticipation of the enthronement of Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I. The city buzzed with renewed energy on Sunday after a convoy carrying the king-designate journeyed through the city center, drawing enthusiastic crowds who celebrated with royal dances.

This vibrant display marks a shift in mood for Tooro Kingdom, moving from nearly a month of mourning to an atmosphere of festivity and anticipation. The preparations are culminating in the official enthronement ceremony for Nyabongo I, slated for Tuesday, September 29th, at the Karuziika Palace.

The Abanyamirwa, the traditional ritual custodians, are central to the intricate preparations underway. The kingdom is preparing to welcome its new Omukama, signifying a new chapter following the 31-year reign of King Oyo.
