Sheema Parish Celebrates Double Ordination After 27-Year Wait

A wave of spiritual joy has washed over Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Mushanga, Sheema Municipality, following the ordination of two new priests on Saturday, September 26. Rev. Fr. Marius Akoromwiguru and Rev. Fr. Felix Twinomugisha officially joined the ministerial priesthood, a moment eagerly anticipated by the Catholic faithful.

The ordinations mark a significant milestone for the parish, as it is the first time in 27 years that Mushanga has produced diocesan priests. The last ordinations for the parish were in 1999.

Rev. Fr. Genesio Nuwagira, the Parish Priest, expressed profound gratitude to God and the congregation, highlighting the collective prayers and support that sustained the parish through its long wait. He described the ordinations as a powerful sign of renewed spiritual life.

“Today, our prayers have been answered. The ordination of Fr. Akoromwiguru and Fr. Twinomugisha brings immense pride to our parish and serves as an inspiration to young men throughout the Archdiocese of Mbarara to answer the call to holy orders,” Fr. Nuwagira stated during the ceremony.

The solemn liturgy was led by the Archbishop of Mbarara, Lambert Bainomugisha, who administered the Sacrament of Holy Orders. In his homily, the Archbishop called upon the newly ordained to serve with humility, dedication, and unwavering commitment to Christ’s teachings, cautioning them to uphold high moral standards.

The celebratory occasion also coincided with the parish’s 80th anniversary, adding another layer of festivity to the event. Faithful from Sheema and surrounding districts, alongside religious leaders and local officials, attended the ceremony to support the new priests.

Following their ordination, Fr. Akoromwiguru has been assigned to Butare Parish in Buhweju, and Fr. Twinomugisha will serve at Nyakyeera Parish in Ntungamo. Both are integral parts of the Archdiocese of Mbarara.
