Salam TV Champions Mbale's National Cleaning Day Success

Mbale City buzzed with activity on September 26, 2026, as residents enthusiastically participated in the National Cleaning Day. The event, aimed at fostering unity and community spirit, drew a large crowd from various sectors of society.

Leading the charge were local officials including Lydia Wanyoto, the Woman MP for Mbale City and Minister of State for Public Service, alongside Umar Nangoli, MP for Mbale Northern Division. They were joined by Bridget Brender Kaahwa from the Ministry of Tourism.

The cleanup preceded the World Tourism Day celebrations, scheduled to take place in Mbale the following day, with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expected as the guest of honour.

A notable presence was the Salam TV and Salam Charity team, led by Managing Director Hajji Karim Kaliisa. Their participation highlighted the media house’s commitment to community initiatives. The Omumanyi wa Salam TV Eastern Region team also turned out in force, building anticipation for their upcoming finals on October 3rd.

Members of the Muslim Students Association of Uganda (MSAU), Eastern Region, also lent their support to the cleanup efforts.

Miss Tourism Uganda 2026/2027, Milfat Mucureezi, and her runners-up were also present, urging residents to adopt sustainable waste management practices and protect the environment by avoiding the burning of waste.

Hajji Karim Kaliisa emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness beyond the designated day, calling it an act of patriotism and urging personal responsibility. “Sustaining this initiative is crucial for promoting cleanliness and environmental conservation,” Kaliisa stated.

Following the cleanup, the Omumanyi wa Salam TV guidebook was officially launched by Hajji Karim Kaliisa, with endorsement from Lydia Wanyoto and Umar Nangoli. Both MPs commended Salam TV and Salam Charity for their contributions to Mbale’s development. Participants agreed that ongoing community involvement is vital for cleanliness and responsible citizenship.
