Nakaseke Leaders Urged to Maximize Shs6 Billion in New Infrastructure

Nakaseke District has recently seen a substantial influx of government-funded infrastructure development, with projects across health, education, agriculture, and roads collectively valued at more than Shs6 billion since February 2026.
Dr. Edward Damulira Ssengonzi, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, emphasized during recent commissioning ceremonies that these projects are designed to enhance the livelihoods of the local population. He highlighted that many other districts are still awaiting similar developments, underscoring the importance of Nakaseke’s current opportunities.
“We expect you to fix the service delivery gaps,” Dr. Ssengonzi stated, urging local leaders to actively manage and leverage the new facilities. The investments include a Shs900 million paediatric ward at Semuto Health Centre IV, Shs800 million for infrastructure at St Joseph Kasambya Seed Secondary School, and Shs300 million for water works at Nakaseke Hospital.
Significant funding has also gone into road construction, with Shs3.8 billion allocated to the 27km Gayaza-Kalungu-Mityomere and Gomero-Migani-Kagongi-Buwana roads. Other projects include a Shs364 million maternity ward at Mifunya Health Centre III and Shs800 million for Kirema-Kafu Seed Secondary School. The district is also set to benefit from ongoing road works like the Wobulenzi-Nakaseke-Kapeeka-Kituuma-Butalangu road and the over 80% complete Luweero-Kiwoko-Butalangu road.
Despite these advancements, District LC5 Chairperson Ignatius Kiwanuka Koomu acknowledged persistent challenges, particularly with access roads hindering farmers’ ability to reach markets, even as the district fast-tracks initiatives like the Parish Development Model.
