Mushanga Parish Celebrates 80 Years, Unveils Shs5.8 Billion Development Plan

Mushanga Catholic Parish in Sheema Municipality recently celebrated a significant milestone, marking 80 years of service and community development. The occasion was graced by the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mackson Oboth, who represented Vice President Jessica Alupo.

Oboth lauded the parish for its consistent efforts in fostering social transformation and complementing government initiatives. He highlighted the crucial role of faith-based organizations in improving household incomes and providing essential services like education and healthcare, especially in areas where government presence was once limited.

The anniversary celebrations also saw the launch of the OAK Jubilee Project, a large-scale development initiative estimated at Shs5.8 billion. This project aims to expand community infrastructure, boost local economies, and support the parish’s pastoral work. A key component of the project is the construction of a commercial building in memory of Pere Gauthier, intended to generate income for the parish and contribute to community development.

During the event, newly ordained priests received Shs30 million each from the Mushanga Parish Council to support their ministries. Speaker Oboth encouraged the youth to actively participate in national development, urging them to shun violence, corruption, and drug abuse, and instead focus their energies on personal growth and community upliftment.

The celebrations brought together a diverse group of leaders, including civic officials, clergy, Members of Parliament, and thousands of parishioners, underscoring eight decades of religious and developmental impact in the region. Financial contributions were also made by Speaker Oboth, both personally and on behalf of the Vice President, towards the parish’s infrastructure goals.
