Teso Paramount Chief Deepens Ties with Lango Through Cultural Exchange

Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etimeileng, the Paramount Chief of the Iteso people, recently undertook a significant visit to the Lango Sub-region. The engagement aimed to bolster peace, unity, and cultural connections between the Iteso and Lango communities.
Upon his arrival in Lira City, the Emorimor and his delegation were warmly received by the Paramount Chief of Lango, Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, at the Lango Royal Palace. This meeting served as a crucial platform to reaffirm the existing relationship between the neighbouring ethnic groups and to advocate for peaceful coexistence and collaborative cultural initiatives.
The visit garnered substantial public attention, drawing large crowds and temporarily impacting local business activities. Members of the Iteso community residing in the Lango region turned out in force to welcome their paramount chief, celebrating with traditional performances.
A key aspect of the Emorimor’s agenda included a visit to the Uganda Christian School of Nursing in Lira. Here, discussions focused on enhancing educational prospects, particularly the need to improve access to science-related education for Teso children. As a direct outcome of this engagement, two full scholarships for Teso students pursuing science studies were secured.
Stephen Ojacor, Minister for Information at the Iteso Cultural Union, highlighted the significance of the visit in consolidating the relationship between the two tribes and furthering the union’s broader educational goals for young people.
The Emorimor’s trip to Lango precedes his fourth coronation anniversary celebrations, scheduled for late October 2026. The Lira visit is seen as a testament to the Iteso Cultural Union’s commitment to leveraging cultural leadership for social and economic development, promoting inter-community harmony, and preserving cultural heritage.
