Hoima District is stepping up its infrastructure game with the commencement of two new road projects valued at Shs 201 million. The initiative aims to enhance local connectivity and foster economic growth within the affected sub-counties.
The projects include the 5-kilometer Gamugole-Lyato-Kikyora road in Buseruka Sub-county, costing approximately Shs 73 million, and the 12-kilometer Haibale-Hanga-Buhirigi road, which bridges Bombo and Kisukuma sub-counties, at a cost of about Shs 128 million.
During the project launches, Hoima Resident District Commissioner Rogers Mbabazi encouraged residents to leverage the improved roads to support government initiatives and stimulate local economies. He praised the district’s focus on infrastructure, noting its crucial role in economic development.
Hoima District Chairperson Uthuman Mugisha Mubarak reiterated the district’s commitment to upgrading its road network, despite facing resource limitations. He also assured the community that the district would continue advocating for the expansion of other vital services like water, electricity, and healthcare facilities.
Beatrice Wembabazi, Hoima Woman Member of Parliament, emphasized the importance of community involvement in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of these road projects. She highlighted how well-maintained roads are indispensable for linking communities to markets and essential services.
District officials, including the Speaker and Senior Assistant Secretary, echoed the sentiments, urging parliamentary representatives to lobby for greater central government allocations for district-level road development. They stressed that improved roads are key to enhancing service delivery and household incomes by providing better access to markets for agricultural produce.
These developments are expected to significantly improve transportation and access to markets and social services for residents in Buseruka, Bombo, and Kisukuma sub-counties.
