Ugandan Youth Innovators Secure Shs205 Million for Agricultural Advancements

Young Ugandan innovators have been awarded a substantial Shs205 million through the AYuTe Awards to further develop and scale their groundbreaking agricultural technologies. The initiative aims to catalyze transformation within the nation’s farming sector by empowering youth-led solutions.

The “Go big, Go bold”-themed awards ceremony, held at Sheraton Hotel Kampala, gathered a diverse group of stakeholders, including innovators, development partners, and government officials, highlighting the collaborative spirit driving agricultural progress.

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Jonard Asiimwe, praised the young innovators for their resilience and ingenuity in tackling the challenges plaguing the agricultural landscape. He noted the significant increase in participation this year, with 836 applications received, signaling a burgeoning innovation culture among Uganda’s youth.

Minister Asiimwe stressed the critical importance of commercializing these innovations, drawing parallels with a Chinese model that prioritizes transforming ideas into marketable products and services. He urged innovators to maintain a strong customer focus, ensuring their technologies address genuine societal needs and are readily adopted by users.

Furthermore, the Minister encouraged award recipients to actively promote their innovations rather than letting them remain undeveloped. He implored them to utilize the financial and knowledge-based support responsibly, urging them to think beyond the competition and continue creating impactful solutions for Uganda’s agricultural future.

This year’s AYuTe Awards have reinforced their role as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing youth-driven agricultural innovations, with the latest funding poised to accelerate their impact on the sector.
