AIGP Magambo Addresses National Defence College on Transnational Crime and Drug Threats

AIGP Tom Magambo, Director of Police Crime Investigations, recently shared critical insights with the 5th intake of the National Defence College–Uganda (NDC-U). His lecture focused on the escalating dangers posed by transnational criminal activities and the pervasive influence of the illicit drug trade.

During the session, Magambo explored the intricate connections between criminal enterprises, strategic security imperatives, and the broader goals of socio-economic transformation. He underscored how sophisticated criminal networks and the illegal drug market can significantly disrupt national stability and hinder economic progress.

The lecture highlighted the wide-ranging consequences of transnational crime, emphasizing its capacity to erode institutional trust, destabilize communities, and impede both economic advancement and social development.

This engagement is a key component of the NDC-U’s curriculum, designed to equip senior officers and leaders with a comprehensive understanding of critical national, regional, and international security challenges.

Participants were given the chance to deliberate on effective strategies for security institutions to counter emerging cross-border threats while simultaneously advancing Uganda’s development agenda. This emphasizes the need for a coordinated approach to complex security issues.

Transnational organized crime and the illicit drug trade continue to be significant global concerns, necessitating robust collaboration between security agencies and international partners due to the borderless nature of these criminal operations.

The lecture aligns with Uganda’s ongoing efforts to enhance its institutional capabilities in tackling multifaceted security challenges and protecting the nation’s socio-economic transformation journey.
