Uganda’s Finance Minister, Henry Musasizi, has indicated that the government’s ambitious Tenfold Growth Strategy, which targets transforming the nation’s economy to a $500 billion valuation, cannot be achieved through public funds alone.

During a recent engagement, Minister Musasizi highlighted that the successful implementation of this transformative agenda hinges significantly on mobilizing private credit. He estimated that approximately Shs490 trillion in private credit will be essential to fuel the necessary investments and expansions across various sectors.

The minister’s statement underscores a shift towards greater private sector involvement in driving national economic development. This implies a need for policies and an environment that encourages substantial private investment and lending.

The Tenfold Growth Strategy is designed to catalyze significant economic expansion over a defined period, moving Uganda from its current economic standing to a much larger and more robust economy. The required capital injection from the private sector is a critical component of this vision, suggesting that the government will play a role in creating favorable conditions rather than being the primary financier.

Further details on how this private credit will be mobilized and directed towards key growth sectors are expected to be outlined as the strategy progresses. The success of this approach will depend on building confidence within the private financial sector and ensuring that investments align with national development priorities.
